I'm Kelly, and I'm the owner/designer behind Kelly Stahley Designs LLC. I'm in my early twenties and live about 40 minutes from NYC.
I've always had a love for art. Especially drawing and painting. Figure drawing is my absolute favorite. I retook the same figure drawing class three times in college just because I loved it so much. After graduating with a Fine Art degree I quickly realized finding a good job was not easy at all. I worked at doctors offices all through college and a while after but hated it.
In my free time I continued painting and then started making some jewelry. After spending WAY too much money I didn't have on jewelry supplies I decided to try and sell some of my pieces. I knew about Etsy but never ever thought anyone would ever buy something from me. One day I decided to list a few items and see what happens. Within a few hours I already sold a ring! I was so excited I went out and bought even MORE supplies and started designing and creating, listing and selling. Within 6 months I made around $5,000 off my feather ring design. I had no idea it would be so popular but believe me I'm not complaining!
After a while I wanted to take my little jewelry business outside of Etsy. So I created a basic website and had so much fun making it. This was when I realized I loved web design. Soon after I bought all the Adobe products and practiced my graphic design skills every second of every day. My background in fine art actually was a huge help which I wasn't expecting. It was more of learning how to use the programs that was more of a challenge in the beginning.
So then I got bored of my little website and redesigned it and then redesigned it again and after about the 5th time I thought maybe I could do this for other people! And that lead me to coding. I had ABSOLUTELY no idea I would ever have any interested in coding whatsoever. I quickly realized I'm more of a nerd than I thought. I love html, css, javascript, everything. It's kind of like a puzzle surprisingly I find it really fun.
Once I got the basic coding down I found I was able to do a lot more with my web designs and my interest grew even more. So I decided to start my own company. I'm currently working as a web/graphic designer creating blogs and small business websites, print designs, a bit of everything.
So that's my story :)
